Together, we rise!

At UrbanPromise LA, we
actually believe that together, we can restore LA’s most overlooked communities for the better.

From a Bold Move to a Beautiful Movement

UrbanPromise Los Angeles was founded in 2019 by Dionté and Meg Grey—a young family called by faith, driven by love for their neighbors, and convinced that youth deserve more.

They made a cross-country move from Charlotte, NC to Canoga Park with two toddlers in tow, no network, and no guarantees—just the belief that when youth are empowered with opportunity, support, and purpose, they don’t just break cycles… they start new ones!

Their vision was simple and bold: create a pipeline of leadership in under-resourced neighborhoods by investing in children, raising up local teens, and restoring communities from the inside out.

Before planting UrbanPromise in LA, Dionté served for three years at UrbanPromise Charlotte as a site director, where he saw firsthand what happens when youth are equipped with tools to lead and trusted with real responsibility. Meg brought her background in education and youth mentoring—and together, they brought the model west.

They didn’t wait for perfect conditions.
They just plunged into the promise.

Youth Leadership

In our very first year, 9 courageous teens in Canoga Park stepped up as StreetLeaders—the “OGs.” They informed how we built each program - as the local LA experts who knew the needs and challenges of their neighborhood. They led summer camp classrooms, mentored younger kids, and redefined what it means to lead with service and heart. Since then, dozens more have followed.

Rooted in Legacy, Focused on the Future

UrbanPromise began in Camden, NJ in 1988, under the leadership of Dr. Bruce Main and has grown into an international movement of Christ-centered youth development.

UrbanPromise LA is proud to carry this legacy forward—serving as a local engine of opportunity, equity, and hope in Canoga Park with our sights set on expanding around the city.
