Plunge into the Promise
Plunge into the Promise
Our Story
UrbanPromise Los Angeles was founded in 2019 by Dionté and Meg Grey (along with their two young daughters) a family on mission with a deep passion for God, education, and youth leadership. Before launching UrbanPromise LA, Dionté served for five years as a Site Director at UrbanPromise Charlotte, where he witnessed firsthand the transformative power of the UrbanPromise model—originally founded in 1988 by Bruce Main in Camden, NJ.
Compelled by faith and a calling to expand opportunities for youth in Los Angeles, the Greys took a bold leap, moving their young family across the country to start a nonprofit with no guarantees—just a deep sense of hope. Rooted in the belief that more young people deserve the opportunity to lead and thrive, they began by recruiting five local teens as StreetLeaders. Together, they built programs that empower at-promise youth to rise as leaders in their own community.
From a socially-distanced afterschool program in Canoga Park to a growing movement of hope for LA’s future, UrbanPromise Los Angeles continues to stand on the promise that God is faithful—and that when young people are given the opportunity to lead, they change the world.
The Road to Restoration starts with one step of faith.
Watch how UrbanPromise Los Angeles is empowering the next generation of leaders—one child, one dream, one community at a time.
Plunge into the Promise
“He didn’t tiptoe around God’s promise asking cautiously skeptical questions. He plunged into the promise and came up strong, ready for God, sure that God would make good on what he had said. That’s why it is said, “Abraham was declared fit before God by trusting God to set him right.” But it’s not just Abraham; it’s also us! The same thing gets said about us when we embrace and believe the One who brought Jesus to life when the conditions were equally hopeless. The sacrificed Jesus made us fit for God, set us right with God.” - Romans 4:20-25 MSG
Abraham’s faith journey serves as a consistent source of inspiration for UrbanPromise Los Angeles as we press on, sure that God will make good on what He has spoken over LA.
